About

Third Serve was founded by Bruce Hawtin and Jonathan Barth. The foundation was born when Bruce and Jonathan noticed the lack of QUALITY grass roots programming and also the lack of access many youth have to existing programming. Largely due to logistics or finances, Bruce and Jonathan formed Third Serve to provide transport, equipment, coaching, and continued support where necessary. Bruce is the Director of the Barth Hawtin Tennis Academy on Kiawah Island, SC, and Jonathan is the Tennis Director at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, where Barth Hawtin Tennis Academy operates.

Mission

Our mission is to introduce tennis and educational opportunities in small community hubs where youth show interest, and to provide continued training and support for the youth who show commitment, character & potential to play tennis at a competitive level.

Vision

The vision for Third Serve is to grow a multi faceted non-profit to serve the following: Free tennis to hundreds of underserved youth across CharlestonA pathway for committed players to move into higher level training through the Barth Hawtin Tennis Academy, pursuing college scholarshipsOpportunities for all participants in Third Serve programs to attend tournaments and eventsFund lower level professional players who work with the foundation promoting it’s cause, and interacting with our players

"We aren't the first ones to do this. Programs like this exist across the country and provide real value in the day to day lives of children. Programs like this have proven success stories of tennis providing a pathway to college scholarships and successful lives."

-Bruce Hawtin

I think we have the potential to do something very special here. Tennis is really important to my family and with this I think we can create opportunities for so many youth that otherwise would never touch a racquet, or be involved in sports period.
